My story is about abandoned islands abandoned by people.
Once Peter the Great built forts to guard St. Petersburg. A total of 19 were built.
Most of the forts are slowly crumbling, overgrown with trees and living their own lives. Now not a single fort serves its military purpose, it pleases me.
These islands have died down in the waters of the Gulf of Finland, like large stone turtles that no one sees anymore.
History sinks into oblivion. I want to keep these places, so close, in my photographs.
I take you by the hand and lead you through the labyrinths of memory. The memory of a place is eternal.
